Initialed Charter
The Education Specialist is responsible to
make sure the parent understands the information in the charter before they
initial the charter. (Print a copy of the complete charter from the school’s
website for referral, or if they prefer, offer to bring one on your next visit.)
Make sure that you and the parent sign the bottom. Only one charter summary
per family must be initialed. Make a copy for your files, and mail the original
to the school office. The parent initials only the bold titles
of each section of the charter (8 total).
TheInitialed Charter addresses the following
items that the Education Specialist must explain to the satisfaction of the
parent.
- Parents' responsibility in their child's learning program. The parent is not required to teach
the child. The parent is responsible to make sure the student learns.
Parents can choose how, when or what they learn. The parent
"facilitates" learning.
- Administration of the current state mandated assessment tool. This Charter School must administer any state mandated
test whenever one is provided. The state mandated test is currently the
SAT9. The parent may choose whether or not to include the scores in the
student's file. If a parent chooses to have the SAT9 test results in the
CUME, they may always change their minds later. Additionally, other tests
are available. (Note: See California Pupil/Parent Protection Rights.)
- Truancy and expulsion policy. In order to remain enrolled in this Charter School, a student must demonstrate progress
towards the student standards. Students who are truant for two consecutive
months will be dismissed from school. Truancy is documented on the
Attendance Roll Sheet as less than 50% attendance during any 20 school
days in the student's track.
- Policy regarding compliance with all applicable laws concerning immunization,
health and safety, child abuse reporting and related issues for both employees
and students. In accordance with existing board policy and applicable law, a student's
immunization record must be on file in his CUME file. All students must
complete an immunization card or waiver for submission to Student Records
office.
- Charter school outcomes, philosophy, program, and any other
applicable requirements.
