Welcome to the Lucerne Valley Career Academy web site! The LVCA charter has been approved by the Lucerne Valley Unified School District in Lucerne Valley, CA. LVCA is an independent study charter school that provides students with the courses and support to graduate. In addition, students are able to take free college courses and obtain skills and certificates needed to land a job in a technical career field of their choice. LVCA opens September 4, 2007 and serves California students residing in a six-county area including San Bernardino, Inyo, Kern, Los Angeles, Orange, and Riverside.

Career Academy MISSION --spoken in the voice of the student:

My goal is to graduate from the Career Academy with the everpresent conviction
that I can excel and succeed academically, financially and interpersonally in all
areas of endeavor as I live in harmony with the laws of my state and country.  To
reach my goal, I will ask and receive the full support of my school,  my teachers,
and my District as I also commit to doing my best in every learning opportunity that I engage and complete thoroughly and conscientiously.

TEACHERS: Our District is one of the first in California to admit and to adjust to the fact that not all students will go on to four-year colleges. What options exist for those 35-45% in many districts who want to graduate but also need to qualify for a well-paid job upon earning a diploma?

The Career Academy is seeking leading edge teachers who are willing:

• To serve a small caseload of career-oriented, independent study students who need more personalized learning plans because large impersonal classes in crowded high schools do not work for them.

• To set your own schedule and to receive compensation per student based on your caseload preference to a maximum of 27. Starting salary is $55,000 with the max. caseload and 175 student enrollment days, including a weekly meeting for each student.

• To network their own communities to enable prospective students to find out about this new approach to education by first contacting an Academy teacher for information about how this school works and how it could benefit them. Those newly interested students may also request you to be their teacher when they fill out the application.
